This day will explore the ideas and musical context for this very French movement, tracing its roots from sounds of the East through to jazz and Western ideologies. Using a wide range of recordings and illustrations from the piano, we will discover the main elements that make up the

sensual, colourful world of the Impressionists and appreciate them against a rich artistic and literary backdrop. Come and delve into the music of Debussy, Ravel, Szymanowski, Bill Evans and many others.

 

This course will take place in the St Monica Trust Main Hall. For a 10am start, the security-controlled doors will open at 9:40am. Please do not arrive prior to this, sorry for any inconvenience.
